November at Tiger Cub Immersion School was a month brimming with exploration and creativity. As the crisp autumn air swept in, our classrooms filled with vibrant colors and joyful celebrations. Throughout the month, students immersed themselves in the wonders of the season while strengthening their academic skills and building connections with each other.
Our journey into the theme of "Autumn" invited students to observe and celebrate the changing world around them. Through captivating stories in both Chinese and English, such as "Autumn," "Autumn Wings," "Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf," and "We're Going on a Leaf Hunt," students explored the beauty and magic of the changing season. Inspired by these tales, they created colorful crafts of autumn trees using torn paper, painted leaves with recycled materials, and experimented with sensory art by blending vibrant reds, oranges, yellows, and browns. Group discussions helped deepen their understanding of how autumn's cooler weather and shorter days paint our environment with brilliant hues. Outdoor explorations brought these lessons to life, as students observed leaves changing color and drifting to the playground, collected natural specimens, and designed festive crafts like leaf wreaths, suncatchers, and even their own sweaters.
Throughout November, students engaged in a variety of academic activities designed to enhance their learning and skills. Students honed their language skills through various activities, including practicing Chinese characters such as 田 (tián), 下 (xià), 山 (shān), 六 (liù), 王 (wáng), 白 (bái), and 木 (mù). English classes introduced new letters and vocabulary, with students making their own emergent reader books, connecting them to words like jam, jar, leaf, look, and lizard. Students also sharpened their math and problem-solving skills through activities such as counting and matching leaves, sorting by color and shape, and comparing sizes. Practical life exercises, like fastening buttons and transferring water with droppers, helped younger students develop fine motor skills, while older students built on their understanding through collaborative projects and structured play.
As the month unfolded, students learned about Thanksgiving and its traditions. Storytime featured books like "Thanksgiving," "Duck for Turkey Day," "Katie Saves Thanksgiving," and "Llama Llama Gives Thanks," sparking conversations about gratitude, family, and harvest. Festive crafts included making cornucopias filled with seasonal fruits and vegetables, stamping corn kernels with Lego blocks, and painting textured turkey feathers. Through these engaging activities, students discovered the meaning behind Thanksgiving and the importance of giving thanks for the people and experiences that enrich our lives.
A highlight of November was our annual Thanksgiving Potluck, where our families gathered to share a delicious meal and celebrate togetherness. We are truly grateful for the warmth and support of our TCIS families that make the event so special. The students delighted in presenting their crafts and enjoyed the festive atmosphere, surrounded by good food and great company. The spirit of gratitude was felt by all, and we send our heartfelt thanks to the parents for their continued partnership and enthusiasm.
As November draws to a close, we look forward to welcoming December and embarking on new adventures. Stay tuned for another month of discovery, learning, and joy at Tiger Cub Immersion School!
