December 2024

Monthly Recap

December at Tiger Cub Immersion School was a month filled with exploring the wonders of the winter season, as well as celebrating the holiday festivities to come.

We began the month learning about different types of winter weather through stories like "The Changes of Four Seasons: Winter," "Snowy Day," and "Winter is Coming." We practiced matching different weather conditions to their corresponding vocabulary words and identifying pieces of clothing that are appropriate for winter. We also worked on crafting snowflakes and winter landscapes, bringing the season to life in their artwork. We then continued our exploration of “Winter” by focusing on winter activities such as sledding, skating, and building snowmen. We read books such as "Snow on the River," "Sledding," and "Snowy Weather" to expand our understanding of winter recreation, while also working on artwork depicting sleds and ice skates.

Beyond exploring the Winter season, our students also worked hard on improving their language and mathematics skills. We read book such as “Sports Meet” and “I Can Crawl” and learned the characters 走 (walk), 爬 (crawl), 跑 (run), 会 (can), 爪 (claw), and 足 (foot), among others. We also read books such as “Where is the Kitten?” and “Where to Hide and Find It,” where we learned and practiced using vocabulary words for spatial relations in Chinese, such as 前 (front), 后 (back), 左 (left), 右 (right), 中 (middle). In addition, our students also worked on ordering numbers from 1 to 10, matching shapes, and solving puzzles.

As December is also a month of festivities, our students also participated in many activities in celebration of the holiday season. In class, we read holiday-themed stories such as "Christmas is Coming" and "Bell Bear's Christmas Eve," learned to sing a variety of holiday tunes, and made many crafts including Christmas trees, ornaments, and seasonal greeting cards. We also talked about the significance of the Winter Solstice—not only that it is the shortest day of the year, but also that it is celebrated as a traditional holiday in Chinese culture, where we enjoy viewing plum blossoms and eating rice balls. On the last day of school for the year, we held our annual Holiday Party, where we invited our wonderful families to join us in the school for a myriad of activities, including a fun and exciting gift exchange!

As we conclude 2024, Tiger Cub Immersion School looks forward to welcoming students back in the new year, ready for more exciting learning adventures in 2025.

Wintry Snowscapes

Using clay, paper, and markers, students created snowscapes depicting forests and winter villages.

Penguins on Ice

First, students colored a penguin design and painted icebergs blue. Then, they cut the penguin out, tore the blue paper to create small pieces of ice, and glued it onto black construction paper to create a scene of a penguin on ice.

Students put together pieces of felt to build a snowman.

Where is the Dog?

Students reviewed location words and matched the appropriate word to fit the picture.

Reading and Writing

In the Pre-K class, students read “I Can Crawl” and practiced writing new vocabulary words, including 走 (walk), 爪 (claw), 足 (foot), 爬 (crawl), and 跑 (run).

Ordering Numbers

Students first colored the numbered hats and then ordered them from 1 to 10.
