Week 7
(8/5/2024 – 8/9/2024)

Weekly Recap

Welcome back as we add the finishing touches to our fortnight of “Art Exploration!”

This week, we continued exploring primary and secondary colors and incorporated various textures and media into our creations. We experimented with tempera paint, dot markers, and stamps in addition to working with a variety of colored paper to create collages. Combining shredded paper, paper leaves, playdough, and cardboard, we crafted our own birds’ nests in a hands-on mixed media project.

We also got our hands messy with process art and explored many ways to paint, from using traditional tools, such as paintbrushes and sponges, to experimenting with unconventional ones, such as bubble wrap and socks.

Furthermore, throughout the week, we dabbled in a multitude of artistic styles, including Impressionism, Cubism, and Abstractionism, channeling the spirits of famed artists in our renditions of Claude Monet’s Water Lilies, Wassily Kandinsky’s Concentric Circles, and Henri Matisse’s The Snail, to name a few.

In this week’s cooking class, we learned to build our own wraps. We filled tortillas with ham, baby spinach, tomatoes, and mayonnaise and rolled them up into a tasty treat to enjoy at home.

Come back next week to learn how we will jumpstart our journey into “Energy!”

Primary Colors Only

Students continued to explore Mondrian’s techniques and used primary colors to paint their geometric designs.

Pear Dots

Students used stamps to fill in the outline of a pear.

Many Ways to Paint

Students explored painting with diverse media, including bubble wrap and socks.

Tempera Prints

Students first painted with their hands on aluminum foil with tempera paint. Then they transferred their designs onto paper by pressing it on top of the foil.

Ice Pop Art

Using both crumpled and smooth tissue paper, students created a popsicle collage.

Birch Forest

Inspired by Kandinsky’s use of circles, students created a collage of birch trees, incorporating colorful circles to represent leaves.

Monet in Mind

Students made their own lily pads, drawing inspiration from Claude Monet’s renowned painting called Water Lilies.

Motivated by Matisse

Playing with shapes and colors as Henri Matisse did in his piece called The Snail, students created collages using colorful paper and displayed their original pieces in the classroom gallery.

Making a Bird's Nest

Students squished and molded playdough into “eggs” and used markers to add details to the leaves. Then they placed the eggs into a nest of shredded paper and attached it all to a cardboard foundation.

Cooking Activity

Students first laid their tortilla flat, spread a layer of mayonnaise, and added the baby spinach, ham, and tomatoes before rolling it all up.
