Welcome back to our last week exploring the ocean!
This week, we dove into the exciting world of pirates hunting for treasure. We read stories in Chinese, such as “Don’t Go To the Sea,” “Pirate!,” and “Little Pirate’s Adventure,” as well as in English, such as “We’re Going On A Treasure Hunt,” “There Was An Old Pirate,” and “Shiver Me Letters.” These stories inspired imaginative play and discussions about life at sea.
Throughout the week, we transformed our classroom into a pirate ship as we crafted pirate hats, eye patches, telescopes, and paper ships. We pretended to sail across the ocean, hunting for hidden gold and buried treasure. We also made treasure chests using paper, glitter, and glue, wove strips of paper to create miniature boats, and designed colorful paper parrots to accompany us on our journey. Outside, we used our handmade treasure maps to search the playground for the “X" that "marks the spot!"
For our cooking activity this week, we made layered rainbow Jell-O throughout the week–adding one color layer each day–resulting in a vibrant treat by Friday.
Next week, we will start a new chapter on “Jurassic Park: Dinosaurs and the Prehistoric World!”
Students honed their fine motor skills through painting treasure chests with dot markers.
Students created their own pirate eye patches and hooks.
Students wove pieces of colored paper together to make a miniature boat.
Students colored their treasure chests and further decorated them by adding in shiny “treasures.”
Students dug for “treasures” in the sand.
Students practiced focus and fine motor controls as they carefully transferred water using pouring techniques and pipettes.
For our cooking activity this week, students layered strawberry, orange, lemon, lime, and berry Jell-O and made a delightful dessert to enjoy at home.
This week, students enjoyed the outdoors with their friends. On Wednesday, Coach Evan led a soccer class where students practiced kicking the ball.
